The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced this Tuesday that the annual Walk for Life is set on Saturday, February 17 at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Grandstand in España, Manila for the second time.

Different religious and lay organizations join the Walk for Life last February 18, 2023
at the University of Sto. Tomas in España, Manila.

Initiated and organized by the Council of the Laity of the Philippines (CLP), this year’s theme is “Together, we walk for life” to highlight the importance of collective action and standing up for the sanctity and dignity of life.

Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles Brown invites the faithful to join the significant event, especially in the present time where various types of threats expose human life to danger.

“I want to encourage all of you to participate in the Walk for Life. This is an incredibly important event every year to demonstrate our support and our desire to protect life at all stages, from conception until natural death. This is such an important issue in our world today, in which human life is threatened in many ways,” Archbishop Brown said.

The Walk for Life will start pre-dawn around four o’clock until eight o’clock in the morning, walking together and praying along España Boulevard from Welcome Rotonda, Quezon City to the UST Grandstand.

Then a program will take place featuring the keynote address of ProLife Philippines president Bro. Bernard Cañaberal, before the Eucharistic celebration to be presided over by Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula, with CBCP president Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David and CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity chairman Dipolog Bishop Severo Caeremare as concelebrants.

Approximately, five thousand delegates from different dioceses and organizations will participate in the event.

The Walk for Life was first held in 2017 in response to the many cases of “drug war killings” and proposed death penalty reinstatement. It has become an annual tradition since then which aims to defend life and demonstrate solidarity in upholding the dignity of human life.
